Back in March of this year, I started brainstorming and doodling ideas for an Immaculate Heart tile... it took me until now to figure out the design worked best without including the more obvious religious symbolism.

i love this picture.
Ha! I can tell I grew up Catholic! When I saw your title, I read "Immaculate Heart," my mind substituting the doodles with heart... What a great drawing - that'll make a wonderful tile! I am just stunned at how the ideas just flow from you... I'm off to bake a peach pie! Happy 4th! :) Silke
Whoa! Radical, man! I like it. (I imagined a little skull in the base of a wing, but I think it would be too detailed/fussy when it came to carving the design?) Would also make a great tattoo...if one was into tattoos. Enjoyed the link to the post about implementing ideas, etc. Trick is not to get stuck in the stew pot.
Happy 4th--Party on!
I'm with Lynne, my first thought was great tat!
:) Hey David, I was thinking about all the art I've seen from you, you'd do well in the tattoo art business! I'd love to see what you'd come up with if someone gave you an idea! hint hint....do you take Visa? :) (ps: I'm serious!)
I can just try to imagine what kind of work lies behind this ... but the result is remarkable! This one is really a master piece!
Was it an order job?
Ooh, it is very archetypal while being totally new. I love how your mind works!
Happy Fourth!
I am thinking about the nun who is rolling her eyes at this concept! lol.
That sketch book looks like oodles of fun, would love to see more of the wild ideas flying around in there ! Looks like you went through alot of hearts before getting to the version posted full size here... wow !
Nice work. You do nice work.
Hi David, There's an award waiting for you at my blog. Feel free to participate and pass it on, or just enjoy it without doing anything else! :) Silke
Excellent artistic July 4th creation. Your talent is amazing. I am glad you enjoyed the Chihuly glass art on my site today. As always, thanks for all of your comments. You are inspiring.
ohhh the "flying heart" has always been one of my favorite imanges - hope this design makes it into tile production
i think my wall has a hankering for one!
Hello. Just checking out new blogs and I really like yours. Feel free to come check out mine if you'd like. I really looove the artwork. Great stuff.
Dee -- Thanks and I'll wear a t-shirt of it on my first visit to Lucy's Lounge for my debut photo.
Silke -- It's funny that this is my first Catholic related tile you've seen... all of my saint tiles are reverent. MMMMmmmmm -- peach pie... I'll be right over.
PS -- I'll be over very soon to see my award... Thank you very much.
Lynne (louciao) -- You are so right... you do this sort of thing? Anything too small with any degree of sophistication (ha, a skull) would have trouble surviving the "skulpt" ;). About getting stuck in the stew pot... I get stuck there a lot, but the trick is to move on to another design or task, or whatever, and return at a later time or date.
Rain -- Thank you! I do love to watch the "tat" shows on cable... the design process is similar, in that each have to be a bit more simple and outlined than other forms of art. I even purchased the domain name "tattiles.com" and ended up doing nothing with it (and so I let it drop).
What kind of design are you thinking of? I'll visit you soon and get the scoop. ;)
Peter -- Thanks Peter! What is this exotic French word... "work". ;) ... there is no "work" here, just passionate labor of love.
No, not an order... if that was the case, I would've finished it a little more quickly.
Belette -- I don't have any pals of the archie type...? ;)
I love how your mind works too! Hope you had a great time painting Lily... (I know, I know, just kidding).
Patricia -- LOL! It really is funny because I do have a client who just happens to be a Nun. To you, Sister Mary Margaret -- I know this may seem a bit juvenile, but I was a bit hesitant to do a true Immaculate Heart in this cartoon style... didn't want to be disrespectful.
Owen -- Thanks Owen... Maybe I'll post more from that sketch book. I know I should be fleshing out more of the ideas in that book as I've been working from scratch directly in Photoshop... not a good way to document genesis.
Abe -- That's a fine compliment coming from the master of gobsmacks! Thank you, Abe...
Julie -- Your latest Chihuly capture is true genius... absolutely beautiful and amazing. Thank you!
Lady P -- The origins of this design didn't include the wings, but I do have to say the idea sparked something in me. I'll eventually get an online store up and running, hopefully sooner than later (been saying that for months).
Lee Beth -- I did check out your inspirational blog and am very impressed! I liked it a lot... keep up the "sparkling"!
Oh cool David! When I get the chance, I wanted to do a post about my other 2 tattoos as well, I'll drop you a comment so you can take a look! Basically got a little tattoo on my upper left arm, a simple one, symbolized healing. Now that I feel more or less healed, I'd like to expand on it, but I'm not very artistic in that way.
Just stumbled across your blog. Great stuff!
I like this drawing
its amazing :)
The heart is soaring!
Whatever works is good.
